INTRODUCTION
Welcome to the mesmerizing land of Vietnam, where ancient traditions blend harmoniously with modern aspirations, and vibrant landscapes offer a sensory feast for the intrepid traveler. Embark on an unforgettable journey as we dive deep into the heart of this captivating country, immersing ourselves in its rich history, diverse culture, mouthwatering cuisine, and awe-inspiring natural wonders. Get ready to be swept away on a whirlwind adventure through Vietnam!
One may hear that Vietnam is really cheap to travel but how true is that from an Asian backpacker's point of view?
In this comprehensive guide, I will break down the detailed itinerary for 12 days which covers 7 places as follows:
Ho Chi Minh
Danang
Hoi An
Ninh Binh
Cat Ba Island
Sapa
Hanoi
Our routes will be from Kuala Lumpur - Ho Chi Minh - Danang - Hoi An - Hanoi - Ninh Binh - Cat Ba Island - Sapa - Hanoi - Kuala Lumpur. In this comprehensive article, we will be exploring these 7 places (on a backpacker budget for 2 pax) as follows:
i. Getting there
ii. Accommodations
iii. Activities
iv. Food and Drinks
v. Practical Tips
___________________________________________________________________________________________________
Destination 1 : Ho Chi Minh City (2 Days)
i. Getting there
Flight
Kuala Lumpur (KLIA2) - Ho Chi Minh
Cost : RM148/ pax (via AirAsia) = Estimated USD33
Duration : Approximately 2 hours
ii. Accommodations
Depending on one's budget and desire for comfort, one may find many options in Ho Chi Minh ranging from backpacker's style hostels to luxury hotels. Will not be writing much on this section either as the costs vary depending on the types of accommodations chosen.
iii. Activities
These are some of the places we explored in Ho Chi Minh City:
Bui Vien Street
Known as the city's backpackers district, as the sun sets, Bui Vien Street takes on a new persona, transforming into a lively hub of entertainment and nightlife. Whether you prefer a laid-back pub, a vibrant nightclub, or a live music venue, Bui Vien Street has it all. Watch the dancers dancing their way off on stages in front of the clubs/bars and join the eclectic mix of locals and tourists as they dance, sing, and celebrate late into the night, creating an electric atmosphere that is both intoxicating and unforgettable.

Bars and clubs here have really nice Instagrammable spots

Dancers from rows of clubs dancing outside of those clubs/bars
Central Market
One will be spoilt with so many souvenir choices here. Central Market Ho Chi Minh, with its vibrant colors, captivating aromas, and bustling energy, stands as a testament to the city's dynamic spirit. It is not just a marketplace but a gateway to the heart and soul of Vietnam. Whether you're seeking unique treasures, indulging in culinary delights, or immersing yourself in the cultural fabric of the country, Central Market offers an unforgettable journey into the pulse of Ho Chi Minh City.

Landmark 81
As I approached Ho Chi Minh City, I caught my first glimpse of the iconic silhouette dominating the skyline—Landmark 81. Towering over the city like a majestic giant, this architectural marvel beckoned me to explore its heights and witness the vibrant metropolis from a whole new perspective.
Fun fact : It is the tallest building in Vietnam with a height of 461.2 meters (1,513 feet).
For a bird eye's view of Ho Chi Minh city, do head over to the Sky Deck Observation Area :The observation deck, located on the 81st floor of Landmark 81.

Monopi Pet Shop
We stumbled across this cute pet boutique @monopi.official by accident while we are exploring around the city. They have a good collection of the fluffiest fur balls I've ever met in my life. If you are an animal lover, you can stop by here to play with those fur balls for a quick recharge! The staffs there are very welcoming.

iv. Food and drink
You can find various food in this vibrant city but since we are on a backpacker's budget, my two cents of advice : Opt for street food. It is much cheaper compared to dining in cafes or restaurants.
Some other good food spots I will personally recommend:
Note: I do suggest opting for street food to fit into a backpacker's budget. However, we tried some cafes/restaurants (such as Cazone and Secret Garden) for the sake of getting the experience of how dining in such places felt like. The verdict: Food wise is of similar quality with those on the street stalls. The only difference is cafes provide more comfort in terms of the environment. If you are one who does not care about that, off to the street stalls you go!
It is scorching hot in Ho Chi Minh when we were there in early May. Hence we had countless sugar cane drinks to cool down our body temperature.
Cost : 20000 VND = Estimated RM3.78 (USD1) for 1 big cup of fresh sugar cane which can be shared by 2 people.
(Note : Find the one where they add calamansi in the sugar cane drink as that taste extremely good!)

A simple and cheap good old sugar cane drink is what one needs to beat the heat wave
vi. Practical tips
-Depart from Malaysia in the early morning so you will have much more time to explore Ho Chi Minh. Our flight was at 6.55 am. Note that Vietnam time is 1 hour behind Malaysia time. Plus, morning comes early over there as well around 5.30 am.
-Accommodations : It is way much cheaper to get the accommodations by yourself via platforms such as Booking.com and Agoda rather than to go through a tour company. You will save lots of $$$
-Food and drink : Opt for the ones along the street rather than in cafes/ restaurants to save more $$$

Destination 2 : Danang (2 Days)
We departed from Ho Chi Minh to Danang in the afternoon on the second day.
i. Getting there
Flight
Ho Chi Minh - Danang
Cost: RM176/pax (Via Vietjet) = Estimated USD39
Duration: Approximately 1.5 hours
ii. Accommodations
Will not be writing much on this section either as the costs vary depending on the types of accommodations chosen.
iii. Activities
Golden Hand Bridge, Bana Hills
Operating hours: 7.00 am to 9.30 pm daily
Cost (Entrance fee) : 750000 VND = Estimated RM150/adult (USD33)
Duration: Approximately 15 mins one way up to the bridge via the cable car
(Approximately 30 mins for both ways)
The price of the ticket includes the cable car ride up the hill where the bridge is located. The architecture of this bridge is a sight to behold. Not going to sugarcoat anything but the reality is, unfortunately, we were disappointed with the overcrowded situation at the location. Hordes of tourists everywhere. There were too many people and it was really difficult for us to get a proper shot without anyone out of sight!

Picturesque sceneries at the bottom during the cable ride

The only proper shot we manage to take after spending about
2 hours there trying to find a spot *sigh*

Expectation

Reality

You can clearly see the disappointment and frustration on both of our faces
iv. Food and drink
We opted for local street food Banh Mi for lunch
Cost : Estimated 50000VND = Estimated RM10 (USD2) for a bowl of Banh Mi
v. Practical tips
We discovered that the crowd from the tourist agencies will usually start to come at 9 am. Hence, to avoid the crowd, try to go earlier before that as the place opens at 7am.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________
Destination 3 : Hoi An
i. Getting there
Since Hoi An is about 23km from Danang, we rented a bike and rode there in the evening after our trip to the Golden Hand Bridge
Bike rental cost/ day : 130000VND = Estimated RM25 (USD5.50)
Duration : Approximately an hour
Note : Do take note that you have to pay for bike parking in most of the places in Vietnam. Hence do keep some cash in hand for that.
ii. Accommodation
We did not opt to stay at Hoi An as our lodge is in Danang
iii. Activities
Coconut Village
I will say that this is the best highlight in our trip so far in this province. The cost of the coconut basket boat ride along the river in Coconut Village costs between 150000VND to 300000VND per pax. I will suggest to check and compare the prices first before paying. You can try to negotiate on the price too. We manage to negotiate to 130000VND/ pax.
Cost : 130000VND/pax = Estimated RM26 (USD6)
Duration : Approximately an hour ride
Additional cost (optional) for a few rounds of spins in the boat basket : 100000VND/pax = Estimated RM20 (USD4)

Boatman from the Coconut Village

Cruising along the stream for about an hour. Do apply sunscreen to prevent bad sunburn as the weather tends to get extremely hot. If you are lucky, the boatman can teach you a trick or two as well. Ours taught us how to catch baby crabs at the shores 🤣

So we learnt a new skill : Catching baby crabs

Looks like fruit loops cereal from above isn't it?
Pic courtesy @Letzuploadit

No Coconut Village trip is ever complete without an attempt at trying this. I strongly recommend trying this for once in your life! 100000VND/pax for an exhilarating time of your life because Y.O.D.O (You Only Die Once but you live everyday hence make everyday counts)!!
Just be prepared to look like a drunk person for a while after the ride in this 😂😂
Hoi An Ancient Town
Next, we head to this place to experience the lantern boat tour at night. In Hoi An, lanterns hold deep cultural significance. They are not merely decorative items but symbols of wishes and prayers. During the lantern boat tour, you have the opportunity to partake in this ancient tradition. As your boat gently glides along the river, you can release your own lantern into the water, carrying your hopes and aspirations. The act of releasing the lantern symbolizes letting go of worries and embracing new beginnings.
When the sun sets over the picturesque town of Hoi An, Vietnam, a magical transformation takes place. The narrow streets and ancient buildings become adorned with a warm glow emanating from countless vibrant lanterns. And there is no better way to immerse yourself in this enchanting ambiance than by embarking on a lantern boat tour.
The cost and duration of a lantern boat tour in Hoi An can vary depending on several factors, including the tour operator, the type of boat, and any additional inclusions. The lantern boat tour in Hoi An typically ranges from around 100,000 to 300,000 Vietnamese Dong per person. This cost may include the boat ride, lanterns for release, and sometimes a short performance or a stop at a riverside restaurant. Hence, do your diligent work to check and compare prices first with the operators there before paying.
Cost : 100000VND/pax = Estimated RM20 (USD4)
Duration : 30 mins to 1 hour (depending on the type of tour you take)

The city is adorned with lanterns like these all along the riverwalk area which is truly a mesmerizing sight to behold

I did not lie when I said this city can be as vibrant as it can be with these lights at night
iv: Food and drink
When we hear the word vegan, usually what comes first in our mind: BORING. Fret not as this place serves quirky and fun dining experience which will leave one truly satisfied after dining here. I highly recommend this vegan place @chickpea.eatery as they serve really delicious vegan food over here. Each bite is just full of flavors. Price is reasonable as well despite the high quality of ingredients used to prepare the food. It is no surprise why this place have high ranking in Google review.

Do ignore my tired face as it has been a long day of getting exposed to the harsh sun, walking and exploring places 🤭
Low key envy my partner, Parker who doesn't get tired easily. He is really an energetic
fluffball indeed 😩

Fresh ingredients with burst of flavors at each bite

Good food = Happy tummy

As you walk along the area in Hoi An Ancient Town, do look out for this store too as it serves one of the best desserts I've tasted in my life. This Vietnamese dessert is called Che' whereby one can choose the toppings that they want to be added to the cold coconut milk. Extremely savory with a plethora of tastes from your taste buds from different toppings.
I took all toppings which cost only 40000VND = Estimated RM8 (USD2)

This is how Che' looks like
v. Practical tips
-Unsure if this is for everyone but we managed to cover both Danang (morning) and Hoi An (evening and night) in a day before departing to the next destination the next morning. Do get a bike if you know how to ride as it is much cheaper to do so at just RM25/day (USD5.50). Alternatively, one may opt for Grab Bikes too as it is cheaper for solo travelers. For more than 1 traveler, you might want to consider Grab Car as it is cheaper to do so.
-If you want to explore those tourist destination spots around these areas in the morning, I strongly recommend doing so before 9 am as most of these places will be packed with tourists from the tour agencies by then. No one wants to see such a sight.

Destination 4 : Ninh Binh (2 Days)
i. Getting there
From Danang, we flew to Hanoi and spend a day there before departing to Ninh Binh via bus. Will touch on Hanoi later.
Plane
Danang - Hanoi
Cost : RM193/pax = Estimated USD43
Duration : 1 hour 30 minutes
Bus
Hanoi - Ninh Binh
Cost : 80,000 - 150,000 VND = Estimated RM16 - RM30 (USD4 - 6)
Duration : 2 hours 30 minutes
ii. Accommodations
Since we want to have a comfortable staycation surrounded by nature, we have decided to pamper ourselves a little by staying at this beautiful staycation spot called Nan House which I believe is worth mentioning as it ticks off all of the checkboxes in terms of cleanliness, food, environment, location and most importantly customer service.
Cost (standard double room with free breakfast) : RM192/night X 2 nights = RM384
( via Booking.com)
Estimated USD42/night X 2 nights = USD84
Service is top notch at this place as the staff is extremely helpful to cater to your needs. For each night, they even provide a complimentary herbal food bath for each person whereby it comes with simple instructions to prepare it in your room. What a brilliant idea!
Truly a cherry on top after a long day of walking and exploring outside, this is the best way to unwind yourself before calling it a day. Note: You will feel a tingling sensation when you first use it as it helps to promote blood circulation. You will not feel the tingling sensations as much already upon a frequent use of the herbal foot bath.
They have bike rental service here too. We rented a bike to explore around Ninh Binh as it is more convenient to do so. Note : Fuel is expensive in Vietnam compared to Malaysia , about 100000VND = Estimated RM20 (USD4) for a full tank 😲. Hence plan your trip properly to maximize the fuel usage.
Cost (bike rental in Nan House) : 130000VND/day = Estimated RM25 (USD6)

Hoa Lu Ancient Capital
It is given the nickname of 'Halong Bay on land' as this place is surrounded by water and gigantic limestone rocks. Embark on a journey to discover the remnants of a bygone era, where ancient temples, majestic landscapes, and fascinating legends converge.
Operating hours : 7.00 am to 5.00 pm
Cost (Entrance fee) : 20000VND/pax = Estimated RM4 (USD1)
Other than the 2 beautiful ancient temples here, I will like to specifically share more about 'The Dragon Bed'. The Dragon Bed is a masterpiece of artistry and design. Crafted from precious wood and adorned with intricate carvings, it showcases the exquisite skills of Vietnamese artisans of the past. This 'bed' is considered as the national treasure which dated back in the era between 1533-1789.

Hang Mua Cave
Welcome to the captivating realm of Hang Mua Cave, a hidden gem nestled in the breathtaking Ninh Binh province of Vietnam. As a travel blogger, I am always on the lookout for unique and awe-inspiring destinations, and Hang Mua Cave has truly stolen my heart. Join me on this thrilling adventure as I share my experiences and insights from the perspective of a passionate explorer.
The Path Less Traveled: Stepping into Hang Mua Cave feels like embarking on a quest to uncover a well-kept secret. Unlike its more famous neighbor, Tam Coc, Hang Mua remains off the beaten path, offering an authentic and intimate encounter with nature's wonders. As you venture deeper into this hidden realm, prepare to be rewarded with panoramic views and a sense of tranquility that will leave you in awe.
Ascending to New Heights: To truly appreciate the magnificence of Hang Mua, you must conquer its 500-step staircase (The famous Batu Caves in Malaysia have 272 steps fyi so this is almost double the steps). While it may sound daunting, the climb is a testament to the cave's mystical allure. As you ascend, surrounded by lush greenery and dramatic limestone formations, a sense of anticipation builds. Each step brings you closer to the promise of a breathtaking vista that awaits at the pinnacle. Make sure you push yourself to the top. I guarantee that the views up there will not disappoint!
Panoramic Rewards: Reaching the summit of Hang Mua Cave is an experience like no other. The sweeping panoramic views that unfold before your eyes are simply mesmerizing. Behold the patchwork of emerald rice fields, tranquil rivers winding through the landscape, and the majestic karst formations that rise dramatically from the earth. It's a scene that will leave you spellbound and one that you'll want to capture and cherish forever. Trust me on that!
Operating hours : 6.00 am to 7.00 pm
Cost (Entrance fee) : 100000VND/pax = Estimated RM20 (USD4)

So you have to climb 500 steps to reach this Lying Dragon Mountain 🥳

The sunlight filtering through the cracks creates a magical play of light and shadow, illuminating the limestone walls and revealing their intricate formations.

Operating hours : 8.00 am to 6.00 pm
Cost (Entrance fee for boat ride) : 195000VND/pax = Estimated RM76 (USD17)
Duration : About 1 hour

The lush green view of the paddy fields along the river stream will leave you in awe

You will come across many beautiful pagodas with intricate designs like these
during the boat ride

Peace and tranquility in this path

Lucky for us, the weather favours us on that day.
Do bring along sunscreen in case the weather gets extremely hot.

You will be going through 3 caves during the boat ride.
Each one provides an enchanting view that will leave you in awe.
iv. Food and drink
You can find various food in this vibrant city but since we are on a backpacker's budget, my two cents of advice : Opt for street food. It is much cheaper compared to dining in cafes or restaurants. However, there is one restaurant that I will recommend for affordable and delicious authentic Vietnamese cuisine which is Father Cooking Restaurant.
v. Practical tips
-Rent a bike to move around as it is much more convenient to do so as the places are quite near from one another.
-The boatmen will be very persuasive in asking you to pay them extra tips (about 100000VND) or asking you to get them food and drinks from some sellers along the way during the boat ride even though you had paid the entrance fee for it. Do be firm and let them know how much you can give them as tips (if you want to).
-Do explore those places in the early morning as the afternoon can get extremely hot. For Hang Mua caves, it is advisable to go before 9 am as that is the time whereby tourists start to flock in which is an eyesore indeed.

iii. Activities
Cannon Fort
Cannon Fort is a historic site which offers a unique blend of military heritage, stunning vistas, and a glimpse into the resilience of the local people.
Unveiling a War-Torn Legacy:
Stepping foot onto the grounds of Cannon Fort instantly transports you back to a time of conflict. Originally built by the French in the late 1940s and further fortified during the Vietnam War, this site was strategically positioned to defend against potential attacks.
Jaw-Dropping Panoramic Views:
As you ascend to the fort's highest point, prepare to be awe-struck by the panoramic views that unfold before your eyes. From this vantage point, Halong Bay reveals its mesmerizing beauty, with countless limestone karsts rising majestically from the emerald waters.
To truly appreciate the rugged charm of Cannon Fort and its surroundings, take the opportunity to embark on a scenic hike. Trails wind through lush jungles, providing glimpses of local flora and fauna along the way.
Operating hours : 8 am to 5 pm
Cost (Entrance fee) : 40000VND = Estimated RM8 (USD2)
Note : You can negotiate the price with the locals as the entrance should be free but locals start to charge for it
Duration : Approximately 20 minutes hike depending on one's fitness level

The remnant of a bunk during the war. It is closed but you are still able to peek into it.
It feels eerie when you look inside.

View from the vantage point. It has several vantage points but I feel this is the best point.

The scenic view of Halong Bay
Halong Bay
Halong Bay is celebrated for its ethereal beauty, and Cat Ba Island offers a unique perspective on this UNESCO World Heritage Site. As you sail through the emerald waters, you'll be captivated by the towering limestone karsts that dot the horizon, creating a surreal and otherworldly atmosphere. The calm bays, hidden lagoons, and pristine beaches will leave you in awe, and Cat Ba Island provides the perfect base for exploring this natural wonderland.
Cat Ba Island boasts a collection of idyllic beaches, where you can unwind and soak up the sun in tranquility. Head to Cat Co Cove, a stunning bay with soft sands and clear turquoise waters, perfect for a day of relaxation. For those seeking a more secluded beach experience, trek to the hidden gems of Tung Thu and Co Tien beaches, where you can bask in serenity and enjoy the unspoiled beauty of the island.
The Dark and Light Caves, also known as Hang Sang Toi and Hang Luon, are two popular natural attractions located in Halong Bay, Vietnam.
Dark Cave (Hang Sang Toi): As the name suggests, the Dark Cave is an enigmatic cavern that stretches over 200 meters deep. To enter the cave, visitors typically board small rowing boats or kayaks. Inside, you'll find yourself surrounded by an intriguing darkness, with only dim lights illuminating the path.
The interior of the Dark Cave features impressive stalactites and stalagmites, creating a dramatic and mysterious atmosphere. As you venture deeper, you may also encounter narrow passageways and hidden chambers. Exploring the Dark Cave provides an exciting sense of adventure, and the absence of natural light enhances the ethereal ambiance.
Light Cave (Hang Luon): Situated adjacent to the Dark Cave, the Light Cave offers a stark contrast in terms of its characteristics. The entrance to the Light Cave is a narrow passageway that allows small boats or kayaks to enter. Unlike the Dark Cave, the Light Cave is filled with natural daylight, streaming through a large opening in the ceiling.
Inside the Light Cave, visitors are greeted by an expansive lagoon surrounded by towering limestone cliffs. The water here is tranquil and crystal-clear, creating a surreal and serene atmosphere. This idyllic setting provides an opportunity to swim, kayak, or simply relax and soak in the natural beauty.
Operating hours : Approximately 8 am to 5 pm
Cost (Per tour under Full Moon Party tour) : 550000VND/pax = Estimated RM108 (USD23)
Duration : Approximately 7 hours for a full day tour

You are able to see jellyfish up close if you are lucky but I believe no one wants to get close to it. According to locals, you should beware of the smaller ones especially the red ones as its stings are excruciatingly painful.

What a combination for a stunning view indeed!!

The mesmerizing interior of the Dark Cave. Inside, it is really dark as its name suggest.
Do not flash the lights to the top of the cave to prevent disturbing the bats in it.
There is a mild smell from the soil in this cave as it is mixed with bats shits.
iv. Food and drink
Do not be fooled by the number of followers a business account has. One with large number of followers can turn out to be a huge disappointment with too much marketing but less on emphasizing on their food quality.
However, these 2 places did not fail my taste buds. Both left me with foodgasm instead.
I personally will recommend checking out these 2 places below for really good (which i guarantee will leave you wanting more) , big portions and reasonably priced food. Value for money at its best!
Casa Bonita (Note : Do note that here do not accept card payments)

The entrance of Secret Garden Hostel Cafe. Behind this door, it looks like a party pen for backpackers from all over the globe. Smoothie bowls here are cheaper than in Casa Bonita and taste as good as Casa Bonita's as well. They have a wide varieties of delicious food to cater to your unique individual taste buds.

At Casa Bonita, all of their smoothie bowls sounds so tempting. We tried this : A Pine On The Beach. Every bite will leave you with a deep "hmmmm" because it is really refreshing and good! Do take into account that the portion is big enough for two people to share. Hence you might want to consider before ordering this if you do not have big appetite like us 😂😂😂

Can't really recall this dish name in Casa Bonita. This spicy seafood noodles is under the Chef's Special section on the menu. For the amount of fresh seafood in it with flavorsome crab broth, this is really a satisfying hearty meal indeed after a long day of exploring Cat Ba!
Best part is, this huge portion which can be shared by 2 paxs is just below RM20 (USD4)!🤯

This is the amount of clams given for the dish above, apart from fresh, big succulent prawns and squids 🥰

Chicken and Coconut Curry
Tender chicken pieces which melt into your mouth and a burst of fiery flavors from the curry flavors will leave your taste buds wanting for more 🤤
v. Practical tips
-Getting the best price for tours from so many tour agencies can be quite daunting and I'm here to make everyone's life easier. You may opt for the tour under Full Moon Party Tour company . We went for the tour at Halong Bay under this company which includes pick up and return transfers from your accommodation. buffet lunch and kayaking as well. This company allows you to jump off from the top of the boat into the emerald sea. Lifejacket is provided to those who cannot swim. How fun is that for the sound of an adventure?!! Alternatively, if you have time, you may want to check with some local boatmen there and bargain your price which is way much cheaper. We have to opt for a tour company as we do have much time and we are unable to find any boatmen at that time as well.
-Some of the places here do not accept card payments, hence it is more convenient to keep some cash in hand.

Destination 6 : Sapa (2 Days)
One cannot discuss Sapa's beauty without mentioning its majestic rice terraces. As far as the eye can see, layers of emerald-green rice paddies blanket the mountainside, creating a mesmerizing sight that is a photographer's dream.
For adventurous souls, Sapa offers an extensive network of hiking trails that wind through lush valleys, mountains, and terraced fields. As I embarked on my trekking expeditions, I was rewarded with awe-inspiring vistas at every turn. The breathtaking landscapes, with their rolling hills, meandering rivers, and cascading waterfalls, transported me to a world of untouched beauty.
i. Getting there
We took a sleeper bus from Cat Ba to Sapa. Do survey on the prices around as there are many bus operators and prices may vary depending on the type of sleeper's bus one chooses.
Cat Ba - Sapa
Cost : 500000VND/pax = Estimated RM95 (USD21)
Duration : Approximately 12 hours 😭
The funny thing about taking this sleeper bus is the driver will have many stops along the way to pick up sacks of vegetables, potatoes, fruits and some random stuffs from the locals to be transported to some destinations along the way. Well that is something new to experience 😂😂😂
Note : Do get your sleeper bus from a reputable company as it will have much lesser stops and you will reach your destination faster too since busses from some of these companies will go straight to the destination without a stop in between.

The interior of the sleeper bus. Have bed-like seats which come with comfy blankets, a small pillow and mineral water at each seat. It has wifi connection as well. Some sleeper bus have charging ports too to charge your devices.

Tall people's problem. Fyi, he's a 6 footer in case you are wondering how big is the bed.
ii. Accommodations
We opt for this beautiful lodge called Vista Sapa whereby our room has a huge window panels that shows the breathtaking view of the mountain and hills, surrounded by misty clouds outside.
Cost (Deluxe room with mountain view) : 916000VND/night = Estimated RM180 (USD39) via Agoda

The sense of zen while looking out to a peaceful view like this
iii. Activities
Cat Cat Village
Cat Cat Village is nestled amidst breathtaking natural beauty. The village is enveloped by verdant hills, terraced fields, and meandering streams, creating a picturesque backdrop for every step I took. The air was crisp, filled with the scent of blooming flowers and the gentle rustle of leaves. As I walked along the stone pathways, I discovered hidden waterfalls cascading down moss-covered rocks, adding to the serene ambiance of the village. Every corner of Cat Cat Village offered a postcard-worthy view, inviting me to capture the essence of its beauty through my camera lens.
Cost : 90000VND/pax = Estimated RM18 (USD4)
Note : We are unable to explore the inside of Cat Cat Village since it started to rain heavily. The description above was for the views that you can see as you walk you way towards the village. The beauty of Sapa is really undescribable indeed. One needs to be there in person to truly appreciate the jaw-dropping nature landscapes over there.

The H'Mong people in Sapa.
Cat Cat Village is predominantly inhabited by the Hmong ethnic group, known for their vibrant traditions and distinctive way of life. As I wandered through the path towards the village, I was greeted by friendly smiles and warm hospitality from the locals. The Hmong people are deeply connected to their cultural roots, and it was a privilege to witness their traditional handicrafts, intricate embroidery, and vibrant clothing adorned with elaborate patterns.

Some of the views along the path that will greet your wandering adventurous eyes as you walk towards the village. Regardless of how many picturesque views I have seen, the view of this person is always the best.

Layers of fully white clouds surrounding the backdrops of Fansipan mountain

Like a scene spot from the movie, Twilight isn't it?

You will come across many shops like these as you walk towards Cat Cat Village. Do get something especially from this particular shop as the staffs are really friendly and they are open for price negotiations. Do note that they only accept cash here.

I got this outfit from that shop for only 700000VND = Estimated RM133 (USD29)!!🤯

Meet Henry from Sapa. This doggo here is so focused in admiring the dense clouds in the sky and we got ignored completely eventhough we tried to get its attention. So cute!
iv. Food and drink
Will recommend to check this cafe out : Fansipan Terrace Cafe as it serves reasonably priced good food with chic ambience. Not forgetting, you will be able to feast your eyes on the mountains and paddy landscapes from this spot too while sipping on a cup of coffee.

v. Practical tips
- Do ensure to have a lot of cash in hand because most places in Sapa do not accept card payments. It is difficult to find ATM machines here too as there are not many available around.
-Weather in Sapa can be very cold especially during winter, hence be prepared with your jackets.
-Do bring along a raincoat because the weather is unpredictable nowadays in Sapa. It was raining the whole day when we were there. However, the rain droplets are very fine and small, hence you should still be able to explore around unless it starts to rain very heavily.

ii. Accommodations
Depending on one's budget and desire for comfort, one may find many options in Ho Chi Minh ranging from backpacker's style hostels to luxury hotels. Will not be writing much on this section either as the costs vary depending on the types of accommodations chosen.
iii. Activities
Since we only have 1 day to explore Hanoi, we are unable to explore many places but here are some interesting notable ones.
St. Joseph Cathedral
Built in the late 19th century, St. Joseph Cathedral is a remarkable example of Gothic Revival architecture. It was inspired by the famous Notre-Dame de Paris and designed by a French architect named Jules Bourard. The cathedral boasts intricate details, such as pointed arches, stained glass windows, and imposing spires that reach for the heavens. Its grandeur is an awe-inspiring sight that draws in visitors from around the world.
It is the primary church of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Hanoi and is dedicated to Saint Joseph, the patron saint of Vietnam.

Stood in awe as I stared at this architecture masterpiece. The peace surrounding this area🥺
Train Street
Train Street, officially named Đưong Rung (Railway Street), is an extraordinary neighborhood where houses stand just inches away from the railway tracks. The exact location is at The exact location is 5 Tran Phú.
The establishment of Train Street can be traced back to the early 20th century when the railway line connecting Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Saigon) was constructed. Over time, as the city expanded, the houses gradually encroached upon the railway tracks. Rather than relocating, the local residents chose to coexist with the trains. The safety line (marked with yellow color) is only about 20 centimeters away from the homes, and that’s the line you shouldn’t cross when the train is coming.
To fully immerse yourself in the Train Street experience, it's essential to know the train schedule.

A trip to Vietnam is not complete without wearing this traditional Vietnamese hat
iv. Food and drink
Here will be some of the best spots in Hanoi which I will personally recommend :
They have the best burgers I've ever tasted! One can personalise their burgers with their own choice of buns, meat, toppings and sauces. Heads up though! Be prepared to have messy hands as the ingredients in the burger will surely bound to drip over your fingers while you are savoring every single bite of it. Each bite will surely leave you with a deep sigh of satisfaction!

The burgers are HUGE. If you are a small eater, it is advisable to share this with someone.

Sunkat have one of the best onion rings that I have tried as well.
Big in size (Like the size of an average adult's palm) and cooked to crisp perfection!
You DEFINITELY NEED to visit this cafe if you are in Hanoi. Excellent service from the extremely humble and friendly owners, comfortable chic ambience and most importantly, really good food! Food quality is really top notch here as every small details are being looked into from the taste until the presentation of the food itself. Aesthetically pleasing to the eyes!

Do visit here as they have a huge selection of unique drinks to choose from. Take a sip while enjoying the nightline view of Hanoi city from the top at this cafe.

Can't really recall the name of this cafe but you should definitely give it a go at egg coffee. I'm not a coffee lover and the name of it just makes me go 'yucks'. However, I still tried for the sake of experience. Surprisingly, it taste not bad at all. It has a few layers of tastes, starting from a neutral taste to a mild sweet taste and finally a small hint of bitterness from the coffee. You can still taste a very small hint of yolk too which has been whisked into a white froth.

Generous portion of succulent chunks of beef and fresh, springy noodles simmered in a flavorsome broth with lots of spring onions and a special homemade spicy sauce. Each hearty bite will definitely leave one with a bloated stomach and a food coma in the end.
No wonder this hidden spot is really worth the hype!
v. Practical tips
-Train Street do not have any entrance fee actually but some cafe owners can be really pushy as they will stand at the entrance and insist you to get a drink at their cafe in order to walk around Train Street. Otherwise, they will tell you that entrance is prohibited.
-Local Laundromats: There are numerous local laundromats and laundry shops in Hanoi where you can drop off your clothes for washing. The price for laundry services at these establishments can vary, but you can expect to pay around 10,000 VND to 20,000 VND per item or per kilogram of laundry. Do expect an exorbitant price tag if you need your clothes to be done within 2 hours or else that will be the average price if you collect your clothes the next day.
